On the Edge- Sleepin' Freestyle

Ben tends to be a wild sleeper and we have found him in some pretty interesting positions. This picture does not really do it justice as he really was on the verge of falling out right onto his head!

I post about Ben's sleep because one of my most favorite things in the whole world is to go in and say goodnight to Ben before I go to bed. When we first got home from China Ben was such a light sleeper... every little sound would wake him up. He was uneasy and scared at night. If we touched him or talked to him at all he would bolt up in fear. On the advice of our adoption doctor we washed his blankie from China (to get the orphanage smell off even though he never used it there), slept with it in our bed for a few days, and then put it in his bed. Much to our suprise this did help him relax and start to get into "normal" sleep.

Now, nearly 18 months later, he sleeps like a rock! When I go in there and touch his back to tell him goodnight he still wakes up a little and rolls over. He opens his groggy eyes just a little, sees that it is just regular old Mommy, and quickly falls back asleep. It is normal for him to have a mommy that comes in and bugs him in the middle of the night... no need to panic, no need to bolt upright, no need to wake yourself up. Just regular old Mommy...

And that makes my heart smile!

it too makes my heart smile and made my eyes wet....that is precious.

Will you do me a favor...will you please pull out the cushions from under Ben's bed and lay them beside his bed so when he tumbles out it will be a soft fall...I don't want my precious Benny Boy hurt!
